ROCKET — Institutional website for a cutting-edge science research group

The project of the ROCKET institutional website aimed to primarily translate high-complexity scientific research into a clear, accessible, and reliable digital experience.

ROCKET is a newly founded academic research group, active in materials science, catalysis, and chemical kinetics in real operating conditions (operando). The challenge was not only to present the group but build a digital presence capable of communicating scientific credibility, facilitating the understanding of the work done, and supporting institutional disclosure.

The challenge

Academic and scientific projects often face three recurring problems on the web:

  • Excessively technical language, inaccessible to external audiences

  • Lack of clear information hierarchy

  • Websites that do not reflect the relevance and rigor of the developed research

In the case of ROCKET, the challenge was even greater since it was a new group, which needed to position itself institutionally from the start, both for the scientific community and for funding agencies, students, and partners.

The approach

The website development started from a central principle: clarity without excessive simplification.

The work involved:

  • Strategic organization of scientific content

  • Definition of a visual hierarchy that guided different user profiles

  • Creation of a sober, institutional, and contemporary visual language

  • Balance between academic rigor and accessibility in communication

Each section was designed to answer objective questions: who we are, what we research, why it matters, and how to contact us.

UX and UI decisions

  • Clean layout, focusing on reading and scanability

  • Conscious use of typography for longer technical texts

  • Cores and contrasts thought to convey seriousness and confidence

  • Discreet visual components, avoiding noise or distractions

The experience was designed to work well for both occasional readers and researchers seeking more detailed information.

Result

The website delivers a digital presence that:

  • Strengthens the institutional identity of the group

  • Facilitates scientific disclosure to diverse audiences

  • Reinforces the credibility of ROCKET from the first contact

  • Serves as a base for future growth of the group and its projects

More than an informative website, the project represents a translation between science and digital communication, where design and development act as strategic tools to give visibility to high-impact research.
