Personal and Professional Website — Luiz Gustavo Possato
The personal and professional website of Professor and Doctor Luiz Gustavo Possato, researcher and teacher at UNESP, was developed with the objective of representing, in a single digital space, two complementary dimensions of the same person: the outstanding academic researcher and the individual beyond the curriculum.
More than an institutional site, the project required sensitivity to balance scientific rigor, professional credibility, and personal identity, without one dimension canceling out the other.
The Challenge
The main challenge of the project was to resolve a common conflict in academics' personal sites:
how to present a solid and prestigious scientific trajectory without reducing the person to their Lattes curriculum?
It was necessary:
To communicate academic authority and scientific production
To create a personal space, more human and closer
To avoid an excessively formal or impersonal site
To maintain clarity for distinct publics (students, researchers, partners, and general visitors)
The Solution
The solution found was to create two versions of the same site, coexisting within a single structure:
Professional version, focused on academic activity, research, publications, and teaching career
Personal version, which presents Gustavo beyond the title, with a lighter and more human approach
This separation allows the user to choose how they want to know the professor, without breaking the visual unity or the project's identity.
Technical Approach
The site was developed using HTML, CSS, and pure JavaScript, prioritizing:
Lightness and performance
Complete control of the interface and experience
Clear structure and no dependence on frameworks
This choice reinforces the institutional and timeless character of the project, as well as facilitating future maintenance and evolution.
UX and UI Decisions
Consistent visual language between the two site versions
Clear context change, without confusing the user
Typography and spacing designed for prolonged reading
Clean design, focused on content and narrative
The experience was designed to be direct, elegant, and respectful of the professor's academic profile, without losing proximity.
Result
The project delivers a site that:
faithfully represents the professor's academic trajectory
Humanizes the digital presence without compromising credibility
Clearly and objectively addresses diverse publics
Creates a solid, personal, and professional digital identity at the same time
This project demonstrates how design and development can act as mediators between identity, content, and purpose, especially in academic and institutional contexts.
